Coronavirus: Official Advice and Guidance

Shop St Albans Safely

Hertfordshire County Council is working closely with Public Health England and local councils to respond to government guidance and introduce measures to better support social distancing. This is part of the county wide response to Covid- 19, under the Herts Local Resilience Forum Tactical Co-ordinating Group (TCG). Highways teams have worked closely with Public Health England to adapt roads and footways in key urban areas to support social distancing and enable towns and their services to reopen, as the current lock down measures start to be eased.

The measures are very much focused on providing space to pedestrians, allowing people to use our high streets safely, to queue outside shops and to pass each other at a suitable distance.

In St Albans, some of the temporary changes are:

  • On street parking restrictions along London Road
  • George Street closed to traffic
  • Part of A5183 and Market Place closed to traffic
